Teaching students about cybersafety

In the 21st century learning environment, ICT skills are integrated into the teaching programme, and not generally taught as a separate subject.  It follows that the safe and responsible use of ICT should also be taught in the context of the actual teaching programme.

Dr Michael Berson, professor of social science education at the University of South Florida, illustrated this point at the 2006 NetSafe symposium when he outlined how schools can incorporate cybersafety education into their curriculum.

  1. Cybersafety education continues beyond the distribution of Acceptable Use Agreements.
  1. Is incorporated across the entire curriculum
  1. Cybersafety skills such as the critical consumption of online media should be taught in context of the teaching programme
